Une bourse postdoctorale de deux ans Université libre de Bruxelles

Le Centre de recherche transdisciplinaire « Migrations, Asile et Multiculturalisme » (MAM)de l’Université Libre de Bruxelles offre une bourse postdoctorale en sciences sociales etpolitiques de 24 mois pour un projet de recherche intitulé : « L’Etranger et l’Autre à l’épreuvedes transformations normatives et identitaires en Europe ».

Description du projet Dans le nouveau contexte migratoire, la définition de l’étranger dans l’Union européenne àpartir du critère juridique de la nationalité se double de l’élaboration d’une « altérité » liée àla « culture » ou à l’« ethnicité ». Les « Autres » ne semblent plus se réduire aux personnesne disposant pas de la nationalité d’un Etat de l’Union Européenne. Cette recherche a pourobjet l’analyse des processus de construction des catégories et des classements identitaires enEurope. Elle a pour objectif d’analyser comment s’opèrent la classification et l’infériorisationd’individus et de groupes sur une base « culturelle » ou « ethnique » et quelles en sont lesconséquences pour les groupes minorisés (mobilisation, soumission, repli, etc.) ou lesgroupes majoritaires (lutte contre les discriminations, imposition normative et culturelle,pratiques interculturelles, etc.). Cette recherche collective conjugue diverses approchesdisciplinaires et s’articule autour de cinq projets spécifiques de recherche (deux doctorats endroit, un doctorat en psychologie sociale, un doctorat en anthropologie et un post-doctorat ensciences sociales et politiques).Le projet est consultable sur le site : http://www.ulb.ac.be/socio/germe/

Description de la recherche postdoctorale La recherche postdoctorale s’attachera plus spécifiquement à une étude comparée de la miseen oeuvre des politiques dites d’intégration civique destinée aux nouveaux migrants d’aumoins trois pays européens. Cette recherche sera complétée d’une étude comparée, pour lesmêmes pays, des politiques de lutte contre la discrimination ethnique et raciale. Cetterecherche cherche à tester l’hypothèse de l’abandon des modèles d’intégration multiculturelleet du retour de l’assimilation dans les politiques européennes d’intégration des immigrés.Organisation d’un Colloque international et publication des résultats dans des revuesnationales et internationales.

Conditions Etre porteur d’un diplôme de docteur en sciences sociale ou en sciences politiques.Avoir une excellente connaissance du français et de l'anglais (oral et écrit)Participer aux activités du centre de recherche MAM.Devoir résider en Bruxelles pendant toute la durée du contrat.La bourse postdoctorale est de 24 mois (d’un montant mensuel de +/-1.800 €)Le contrat peut débuter le 1er février 2009.

The trans-disciplinary Centre “Migrations, Asylum and Multiculturalism” (MAM) of theUniversité libre de Bruxelles (ULB) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship insocial and political sciences for the research: “Outsiders in Europe. The Foreigner and theOther in the Process of Changing Rules and Identities”.

Project description The "Others" are in Europe no longer merely those who do not have state citizenship of one ofthe member states of the Union. In the new European migration context, "otherness" asdefined on a legal basis - the foreigner - has been complemented by an ethnically coloureddefinition. This research project wants to shed light on the construction of categories andethnic classifications in Europe. It wants to analyse how classification and inferiorisation ofindividuals and groups comes into effect. It wants to look into the repercussions for bothminority groups (mobilisation, submission, retreat, etc.) and the majority groups (fightagainst discrimination, normative and cultural imposition and intercultural practices, etc.).This collective research combines diverse disciplinary fields. The research consists of fivespecific subprojects (two PhD in law, one PhD in social psychology, one Phd in anthropologyand one postdoctoral fellowship in social and political sciences).For more information check the website: http://www.ulb.ac.be/socio/germe/

Fellowship research The postdoctoral research will focus specifically on a comparative study of theimplementation of civic integration policies for new migrants of at least three Europeancountries. This research will be complemented by a comparative study, for the samecountries, of the policies combating ethnic and racial discrimination. This research will seekto test the assumption of the end of the multicultural model of integration and the return ofassimilation policies in the European policies of migrants’ integration. The fellow willorganize an international symposium on the topic and will publish in national andinternational journals.

Conditions PhD in social and political sciencesApplicant must have a fluent knowledge of both English and French and be willing to residein Brussels for the whole duration of the contract (and take part in the scientific activities ofCentre MAM). The Postdoctoral fellowship grants (+/-1.800 € per month) is offered for 24months. Contract could start on 1st February 2009.
